8th century a.d.
The first oil cultivations
The earliest olive cultivations in the western part of Sicily can be traced back to the period of Phoenician domination, an age when the region became an essential point in the routes of navigators of that time.
7th century b.c. - 5th century a.d.
A land with a great potential
In this period, the greeks for first, and the romans later, having understood the potential of the Sicilian soil and climate, carried on the cultivation of olives.
15th Century a.d.
Oil requirements increments
In the Trapani area, there was a growth in the production of olive oil following a strong migration of Jews to Trapani. This increased the oil requirement, considering the importance of this product in religious celebrations, but also for Jewish cuisine.
18th Century a.d.
The olive cultivation explodes
The Bourbons exploited the rich soil and olive groves to create an economic restart of the area. Historical material of that time attests, the massive deployment of resources to revitalise oil production, that are still there today and which were planted from Spanish.
